INTRODUCTION
In 2015, we grafted a small, 2-acre block of Pinot Noir over to Chardonnay at Winside Vineyard, allowing us to bottle our first vintage of Russian River Chardonnay in 2016. The soils in this section are loamy with high sand content allowing for good drainage, which is perfect for Chardonnay. Compared to Carneros, the fruit is a little riper due to the warmth of this site, but the acidity is also higher due to the soils, which results in a well-balanced, vibrant Chardonnay. The wine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels and spends 16 months on the lees without stirring.
WINEMAKER NOTES
Dark straw to golden in color, the Russian River Chardonnay showcases aromas of apple blossom, kumquat and alpine strawberry. The palate is focused, with plenty of minerality followed by notes of apple, lemon and lime. Fresh and beautifully textured, the finish is linear now, and will slowly round out with age. Drink from 2023-2030.
